Since October 1, your .pub files are stuck
Years of newsletters, bulletins, flyers and certificates were made in Publisher. If they weren't converted before the deadline, there's no Microsoft app left to open them.
- Microsoft 365 no longer includes Publisher. Subscribers can’t open or edit .pub files in Publisher anymore, and the app can’t be installed.
- There’s no Microsoft tool to open them now. Microsoft’s advice was to convert files before the deadline, and it points to third-party converters.
- PDF alone isn’t enough. A PDF lets you print last year’s flyer, but not change this year’s date.
Why not just use a free online converter?
Most converters turn a .pub into a flat picture of your page. You can look at it, but you can’t edit it.
| Typical online converters | OpenPubFiles | |
|---|---|---|
| Can you edit the result? | PDF or image only | Editable PowerPoint (.pptx) plus a PDF |
| Whole folders | One file at a time | Up to 200 files per order, folder structure kept |
| Missing content | Hidden or overflowing text boxes can be lost without warning | Every file checked for missing text before delivery |
| If something looks wrong | You’re on your own | A real person replies, or you get your money back |
How it works
Send your files
One .pub file to try it free, or a whole folder as a .zip. No account, no software to install.
We convert and check them
Each file is converted and checked for missing text. Most orders are delivered within 24 hours.
Download and edit
Every file comes back as an editable .pptx and a .pdf, with the same names and folders you sent.

Questions
Can I still open .pub files in Publisher?
With a Microsoft 365 subscription, no: since October 1, 2026 Publisher can’t be used or installed with a subscription. If you own a one-time-purchase (perpetual) version of Publisher, it keeps working, but Microsoft ended support for it in October 2026.
Why PowerPoint and not Word?
Publisher places text and pictures freely on the page. PowerPoint works the same way, so every box stays exactly where it was and you can keep editing. Word reflows content like a letter, which breaks most layouts.
Can I open the files without PowerPoint?
Yes. A .pptx file also opens in Google Slides, Apple Keynote and the free LibreOffice. And every file comes with a PDF for printing or sharing.
Which Publisher versions work?
Files from Publisher 2003 up to Microsoft 365 work best. Very old files from Publisher 97/98 or earlier aren’t supported yet. Not sure? Send one file free.
Are my files private?
Your files are used only to convert them, are never shared, and are deleted 7 days after delivery, or sooner if you ask. See our privacy policy.
How long does it take?
Most orders are delivered within 24 hours. Organization orders get priority.
What if a file doesn’t look right?
Reply to your delivery email and tell us which file. We’ll take another look, and if we can’t fix it, you get your money back.
Are you affiliated with Microsoft?
No. OpenPubFiles is an independent service. Microsoft, Publisher and PowerPoint are trademarks of Microsoft Corporation.
